North Italy. A precarious cleaning woman, on the verge of being fired, is forced by her need to work to clean a working-class house in a remote mountain location. Before her, an immigrant colleague had been sent there and vanished without a trace. Once she arrives—plunged into darkness by the sealed shutters—she stumbles upon an old volume by a Teutonic physicist, revealing the place to be as sinister as it is isolated. Yet her need to earn a living compels her to continue.
