For generations, the Mongolian people have celebrated three traditional games during festive times: wrestling, archery, and horse racing. This story centers on the tradition of horse racing. Bold, the town’s most renowned horse trainer, gathers a crowd at his home for a special announcement. He boasts about his horses and his unmatched skills, claiming that no one in the town rivals him. He proudly speaks of his prized brown steed—still without a rider. The townspeople suggest Dorj, the eldest son of Dambii, as the perfect candidate. Bold agrees and decides to recruit Dorj for the upcoming race. Dambii lives in the vast Mongolian countryside with his wife, Dolgor, and their three sons: Dorj (12), Byambaa (8), and Nanzaa (4). All three boys show a natural talent with horses. However, when Bold chooses Dorj, middle son Byambaa becomes upset that he wasn’t selected. Angry and disappointed, Byambaa storms off.
