In this dark tale, Jake dreams of a long dead friend Rex. In the dream Rex gives Jake his phone number which Jake remembers on wakening. Things become unsettled when Jake's girlfriend Betty calls the phone numer. The Dead Man's Number was shot on location in New Orleans. The story is based on an actual dream director Jackson Hill had about his deceased friend Rex, to whom the film is dedicated.
The Dead Man's Number was an award winner and screened in the Summer 2017 Southern Shorts Awards Festival in Atlanta. In 2016, The Dead Man's Number screened in California's Camp Cult Classics Film and the Hollywood Horror Festival of Shorts. It was awarded a bronze laurel in the 2016 Los Angeles Neo Noir Film Festival. In 2015, The Dead Man's Number screened in the 10th year of Philadelphia's Terror Film Festival. In juried competition, The Dead Man’s Number won a Gold Remi Award in the Suspense/Thriller Shorts category at the 2014 Houston Worldfest. It was one of the 150 films selected among nearly 4,500 submissions. The Dead Man's Number won the Audience Choice Short Film award at the 2013 Fairhope Film Festival and screened at Timecode NOLA's FF3 Film Festival..
