What is Something In The Woods (2015) about?
Something in the Woods (2015) follows the Hartman family and their dealings with a legendary creature when it begins coming around their farmhouse deep in the woods in the late 1960s. Unlike other Bigfoot movies that present the creature as a rabid murderous animal, this one presents Bigfoot as a creature closer to supposed real-life accounts. In the film, Bigfoot is territorial and the family is just encroaching on his land.
‘The Cowman of Copalis Beach’ Story
The movie is based on an encounter with Bigfoot titled ‘The Cowman of Copalis Beach’. The story starts in the 1960s. One day, a worker at a large roofing product mill in Aberdeen, WA, Jon, came into the mill visibly shaken up. Jon explained that something destroyed his house over the weekend.
Jon explained that when he got home Friday evening, his wife told him that their son mentioned seeing a “cowman” walking around in their field earlier in the day. She went out to see what he was talking about and was hit with a horrible smell but she didn’t see any “cowman”. Their older son also claimed to have had a strange encounter in the woods with a “cowman” on the way home from school.
Jon and his oldest son went out to the spot where the youngest saw something and sure enough, there was hair attached to the barbed wire fence. They went into the woods to explore a bit more and Jon got the feeling that something was watching him. He then spotted movement behind a tree and decided to confront what he believed to be a vagrant.
Jon sent his son back to the house as he launched full force into an altercation with the unknown entity. The supposed vagrant moved inhumanly quickly through the deep brush while Jon gave chase with his gun drawn. After a little bit, Jon got a clear look at a creature that was tall and hairy with deep red eyes.
Jon noticed that the creature was heading back towards his house and he took a shortcut home. Just in time, he arrived and fired off shots at it, sending it running swiftly back into the woodland. His wife asked, “What the hell was that?” and Jon responded, “That was Tim’s Cowman”. This is only the beginning of the account and of the story in Something in the Woods (2015).
