1. A Unique Premise
This movie takes ideas from the simulation hypothesis (the theory that life is a simulation) and takes it to a whole new place with beings that were once humans who are now controlling the world around us.
The logline reads: Humans cannot see them anymore. They control the world and everything that happens in it. Humans live in a comfortable dream that repeats itself. They control the dream. They were humans once too. Now they are something else.
2. Open-Ended Storytelling
The movie does not have a linear structure and it does not provide clear explanations for what happens, allowing viewers to interpret it themselves. The film has metaphors that explore the idea of reality being a dream being controlled by another being.
3. Breathtaking Cinematography
T H E M’s visual style is bold, nuanced, and captivating. The film feels natural and yet subtly surrealistic, giving us an insight into the characters’ world. The dreamlike atmosphere is palpable and invites viewers to be immersed in the film.
4. Great Acting
The movie features some great acting from the lead actors. The largely unknown actors portray their characters with subtle nuances that draw us into their story. Rebecca Calienda in particular gives an amazing performance and has the ability to mesmerize you with just her voice.
5. Beautiful Music
The music in this film is created by Sam Lung, a talented London-based composer. The soundtrack captures the poetry of the movie perfectly. His compositions are beautiful and will linger in your mind for days after you watch the film.
