Superman has been a career-defining role for many actors, dating back to Christopher Reeve’s iconic portrayal. Now, David Corenswet steps into the cape as the latest actor to embody the Man of Steel. Our future Man of Steel didn’t arrive in a spaceship, David was born on July 8, 1993, in Philadelphia. Like many actors, he caught the acting bug early. From the tender age of 9, Corenswet appeared in numerous theater productions, honing his craft. At 18, David transitioned from stage to film.
David started out creating his own opportunities. His debut starring role came in “Following Chase,” a short film he penned himself. Working with director Greg Koorhan, the short film is a simple story about two soldiers struggling to stay undetected in enemy territory. David also ventured into comedy and co-created “Moe & Jerryweather,” a sketch comedy web series, alongside friend Adam Langdon.

After graduating from Juilliard in 2016, Corenswet began his professional journey in minor television roles, appearing in shows like “Elementary” and “House of Cards.” His breakthrough came in 2019 when he became a series regular in Ryan Murphy’s series “Hollywood.” In a relatable role for the up and coming actor, David portrayed an aspiring actor moonlighting as a gas station attendant.

Building on his collaboration with Ryan Murphy, David joined his next Netflix project, “The Politician.” In this series, he took on the role of River, a wealthy young man who has a love affair with the protagonist after being hired to teach him Mandarin. This role put Corenswet on the map, showcasing his ability to play complex characters.
James Gunn tapped David Corenswet to don the iconic cape in his upcoming flick “Superman: Legacy”. This casting marks a big leap for Corenswet, putting him at the heart of a fresh DC cinematic universe. Superman: Legacy is now filming in Ohio, and we can expect to see the film on the big screen in 2025.
