With Juneteenth and Father’s Day coming up this weekend, many Reveel fans will have a lot of free time on their hands and will want to spend that time watching compelling films from talented independent filmmakers from around the world. Luckily, Reveel has 9 new free short films that they have added to the platform. Among those films is our spotlighted film of the week – The Backwater Gospel. This multi-award-winning short film is about the town of Backwater which is cursed by regular visits of The Undertaker and one day the town decides to help death along. Created by the acclaimed University of animation, The Animation Workshop, the film is widely praised for its unique visual style, gruesome story, black humor, and the original soundtrack by Death Country legends Sons of Perdition. There are a lot of layers to this 9-minute film and deep symbolism that lingers with you for years.

Periklis Tsintza’s mystery thriller films have been delightful additions to Reveel’s library of content. Margaret is the latest of his engaging shorts to be added to the platform. The film is about a mother who hires a nanny to take care of her son who suffers from a special disease. Her job is difficult but also dangerous. Margaret is a short film that will have you at the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Animated short films have a way of conveying messages in a very unique and beautiful way. Wolf’s Child is an animated film that does exactly that. The story is about a father who sacrifices himself to save his 9-month-old son from a wolf attack, only for another wolf to take the orphan child as his own. Senior citizen proms have become a new trend in the United States and this heartwarming short film directed by Matthew Demko tells a story centered around the heartwarming event. This short film follows a group of Boston senior citizens decades after high school as they are ready to go wild for prom again — until about 7 p.m. The short film has a lot of humor and a great message about enjoying life in the moment.

Crime has intrigued audiences for decades because of the betrayal and deceit that can spawn from it. Pay Day is a short film that solely focuses on this idea. The film is about a man who comes back after a heist to get his share in the profits but has to worry about how it’s being split and if he is being hired fairly.

Messing with mobsters is typically not a good idea, especially if you plan to threaten them. This is a lesson that the characters in The Jackpot Hit have learned well. The short is about two crooks teaming up with the intention of making big bucks by invading the local mob’s card game. The film is an entertaining watch but it also has a great message about greed.

Critter Village is an animated series that provides family-friendly entertainment for viewers. Consisting of 10 episodes, the series is about a community of animals that builds a dome to evict their human neighbors. The series has comedic and entertaining characters like Nutso, the Anarchist squirrel, siblings Carson, and Cambria O’Hare, and Fox, the dimwitted sidekick.
