The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are two novels that have been adapted to the big screen many times. This movie adaptation, however, does things differently by re-imagining the iconic characters as adults after the events of the classic books.
Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn, Injun Joe, Becky Thatcher, Joe Harper, and Sid Sawyer are just some of the familiar faces that have roles in this movie. With a fresh take on the material, Band of Robbers is a dark comedy that works well as a modern successor to the books. Here is everything you need to know about Band of Robbers before watching the film.
From IMDb, Band of Robbers is a darkly comedic adventure that re-imagines Mark Twain’s iconic literary characters of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer as grown men in the current day. Petty criminal Huck Finn hopes to leave his criminal life behind when he is released from a stint in prison, but his lifelong friend, and corrupt cop, Tom Sawyer, has other plans.
Not ready to give up on his childhood fantasies of wealth and adventure, Tom forms the “Band of Robbers,” recruiting their misfit friends Joe Harper and Ben Rogers, to join them for an elaborate plan to find a fabled treasure. But the plan soon unravels, thrusting the guys on a wild journey with dangerous consequences…
Who is in The Cast?
Band of Robbers was made in 2015 and has many actors that have gone on to have great careers. The cast includes Kyle Gaffner, Adam Nee, Matthew Gray Gubler, Hannibal Buress, Melissa Benoist, Daniel Edward Mora, Eric Christian Olsen, Stephen Lang, Johnny Pemberton, and Cooper Huckabee.
Who Are The Directors?
Aaron and Adam Nee are a filmmaking duo who have written and directed many films together. They are also brothers. Adam and Aaron have a long history of teamwork going back to their childhood. Unlike many other filmmaking duos, the Nee brothers have different specialties in very different areas of the film industry.
Adam is an NYC-based actor who has a lot of experience being the talent in front of the camera. Aaron, on the other hand, has more experience being behind the camera as a cinematographer. Their collaboration and brotherly dynamic have quickly gotten them to where they are today as successful filmmakers. They have recently directed and written The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum and are directing the upcoming Masters of the Universe film.
How Much Does It Take From The Source Material?
Aaron and Adam have changed a few things from the novels like the setting from the Antebellum period to the modern era and all of the ages of the characters. However, when it comes to characters, the filmmaking duo tried their best to stay faithful to the source material while at the same time adding new elements to make the movie stand on its own.
According to the directors, a quarter of the dialogue is verbatim from the books and all of the plot points are drawn directly from the stories of Tom and Huck.
