5 Times ‘Holiday Baggage’ Took Us Back To The 2000s

Reveel Spotlights of the Week

It’s 2008 and Barack Obama has just won the presidential race, Twilight is taking movie theaters (remember those) by storm across the world, The Pussycat Dolls are still together, and the Wii Fit is revolutionizing how people exercise. Feel your age yet?

Believe it or not, 2008 was nearly 15 years ago. A lot has changed since then, but it sure is fun when a film triggers all of the memories of that year. This month on Reveel, Holiday Baggage took us all back fifteen years ago for a (dysfunctional) family holiday film from 2008 that has many throwback moments that will transport us back to those days of nostalgia. Here are nine moments from the holiday film that will take you back in time.

1. The Flip Phone!

There was a time when the most satisfying way to hang up on someone is to snap your flip phone. Now, the average person has touchscreen cell phones that are basically mini computers from the POV of 2008. Back then, flip phones were cool, they were small and neat, but they didn’t have all the bells and whistles of today’s cell phones. In Holiday Baggage, many characters are seen using flip phones as a way to call others. Imagine that.

2. A 2000s Sedan

While we are nowhere near the automotive technology promised to us by Back to the Future, we are getting pretty spoiled with electric vehicles hitting the highways. It’s a feat to think about where we were in 2008. As technology grows in leaps and bounds, cars have become faster, sleeker, and more efficient. Holiday Baggage features a classic 2000s Mercedes-Benz as the main car in the movie. Now you can find that car in a used car lot, dusty, and waiting for its 12th owner.

3. Cameras

Remember when you needed a different gadget to actually take a video? Camera technology in 2008 was limited compared to today’s cameras with numerous high-end features. 2008 actually marked the year that SLR cameras revolutionized photography by being equipped with video capabilities. This holiday film shows many cameras that were popular in the 2000s.

4. The Camcorder

Do you still have the tapes from the early Noughties? Admit it! Camcorders were much more popular then than they are now in 2008. Since SLR cameras and cell phones have gotten video capabilities, camcorders have become less of a necessity. Holiday Baggage depicts characters using camcorders to capture holiday memories, something many of us have done.

5. The 2000s Computers

Computers have gone from being huge boxes with limited capabilities (and slow, slow Internet) to slim, efficient machines that can fit in your bag. Holiday Baggage reminds us just how far we’ve come with technology by showing us all the clunky computers that are probably 10x slower than the latest iPhone.

But Wait! We Also Have A Throwback To The 70s

Holiday Baggage is loaded with items from the 2000s to provide viewers a delightful trip down memory lane. Also, it stars two leading characters that will bring back memories of the 70s in an instant.

Barry Bostwick

Barry Bostwick’s first major role was in 1975 when he played Brad Majors in the Rocky Horror Picture Show. His career took off in the 80s and carried into the 90s. In his role as Pete in Holiday Baggage, Barry portrays a father who has been estranged from his own family.

Cheryl Ladd

At the beginning of her career in the 70s, Cheryl Ladd took on numerous minor roles before finally getting her big break as one of the original Charlie’s Angels. Her career continued through the 80s and 90s, landing more roles along the way. In Holiday Baggage, she plays the role of a loving mother and wife who is trying to mend her family’s wounds.
