Every independent filmmaker dreams of getting a big-time Hollywood actor involved in their passion project. The reality is that it can be difficult to get known actors on board with your film. Not only do independent filmmakers rarely have the funds to attract Hollywood stars, but many times the actors are hard to get into contact with. Dominic Burgess is a director who managed to convince Alfred Molina to star in his independent short film, “Sam Did It.” Here is the story of how he got the Spider-Man 2 actor involved with his project.
Who is Dominic Burgess?
Dominic Burgess is a filmmaker but more importantly than that, he is an actor who has starred in various popular television shows such as Dr. Death, The Good Place, and The Magicians. Burgess was born in England on July 29th, 1982. He went to the British drama school Academy of Live and Recorded Arts. It was there that he auditioned for his first professional role in Batman Begins. Dominic moved to Los Angeles in 2007 and his career began to take off. He made his directorial debut with Sam Did It in 2018, and he also wrote the screenplay.
How Dominic Burgess Got Alfred Molina in Sam Did It
In the Dominic Burgess interview with Reveel’d, he explains how Alfred Molina got involved with the project to Gavin Michael Booth. Sam Did It is about a man who gets the chance to meet his celebrity idol. The only problem is that the man works in a morgue and his idol is dead. Molina plays the dead celebrity idol in the short film but Dominic did not expect to get a popular celebrity for the role.
Burgess and Molina briefly worked with each other on the FX series Feud but they were not close at all. While filming, Burgess sent Molina a Facebook message asking if he would be interested in acting in Sam Did It. Molina did not answer at first but a couple of days later he enthusiastically agreed to be part of the project.
